Google Chrome is a web browser — the program you use to visit websites, run web applications, watch video, do online banking and fill in forms. It is the most widely used browser in South Africa and worldwide, and it runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
What is Chrome?
Chrome is a web browser: software that fetches pages from the internet and renders them so you can read and interact with them.
It is built on Chromium, an open-source project Google leads. That matters more than it sounds, because several other browsers — Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi — are also built on Chromium. They share the same underlying engine, so sites behave near-identically across them, and Chrome extensions generally work in all of them. What differs is the surrounding features, defaults and privacy handling.
