Ilvitrim Suspension Used For

Ilvitrim suspension is an antibiotic containing sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, used to treat or prevent a variety of bacterial infections[4]. It is commonly used for managing respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, middle ear infections (otitis media), bronchitis, shigellosis (bacillary dysentery), and traveler’s diarrhea[5][8]. Ilvitrim is also used as prophylaxis (prevention) and treatment of Pneumocystis jiroveci (carinii) pneumonia (PCP), a serious type of pneumonia often affecting individuals with weakened immune systems, including those with HIV/AIDS[1][2][3][5].

In pediatric practice, Ilvitrim suspension is prescribed to children to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, ear, or urinary tract, and also to prevent certain infections in immunocompromised patients[7][8]. The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the infection type and patient’s age or condition, and it should only be used as directed by a healthcare professional[5][7].
