What Is Amuco Used For

Amuco is a medication primarily used as a mucolytic agent, which means it helps break down and thin mucus in the respiratory tract, making it easier to clear from the airways. It is commonly used to relieve chest congestion and facilitate easier breathing, especially during acute respiratory conditions such as colds, flu, bronchitis, and sinusitis[1].

The active ingredient in Amuco is N-Acetylcysteine. This compound works by reducing the viscosity (thickness) of mucus, making it less sticky and easier for the body to expel through coughing. Amuco is available in different strengths, such as 200 mg (Amuco 200) and 600 mg (Amuco 600), often in the form of effervescent tablets that are dissolved in water before consumption[2][3][4].

Amuco is indicated for use in acute respiratory conditions requiring mucus breakdown for up to 14 days. It is not recommended for prolonged use and should be used with caution in certain populations, such as children under two years, pregnant or lactating women, those with peptic ulceration, asthmatic patients, and elderly individuals with respiratory insufficiency[5][8].
