Fucidin is a prescription antibiotic cream or ointment that contains fusidic acid, used mainly for treating bacterial skin infections such as infected eczema, dermatitis, impetigo, infected hair follicles, infected wounds, and infections around the nails[2][5].
It works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus and some other Gram-positive bacteria, helping the immune system clear the infection[6]. Fucidin is not suitable for viral or fungal infections such as cold sores or thrush, nor is it recommended for treating acne or spots[2]. The medication should only be used for conditions diagnosed as bacterial skin infections and applied strictly according to medical advice[3].
