What Is Naseptin Cream Used For

Naseptin cream is primarily used to treat and prevent nasal infections caused by staphylococcal bacteria, especially Staphylococcus aureus.[1][2][7] The cream is applied directly inside the nostrils and works due to its two active ingredients: chlorhexidine dihydrochloride, an antiseptic that kills germs, and neomycin sulphate, an antibiotic effective against a range of bacteria.[1][2][3]

In addition to clearing active nasal infections, Naseptin cream can be used to:

  • Prevent people from becoming carriers of staphylococci by eradicating bacteria from the nose[3][5]
  • Reduce the frequency of nosebleeds and nasal crusting, which often contribute to infection, further nose picking, and bleeding[1][8]
  • Help decolonize those carrying Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA) in the nasal passages, particularly before surgical procedures, to lower the risk of transmitting bacteria to wounds[5]

The usual course is four applications per day for 5 to 10 days to treat infections. For prevention, it may be used twice daily, as directed by a health professional. It is suitable for adults, children, and pregnant or breastfeeding women.[1][3][7]
