Xeramel Sf Used For

Xeramel SF is used to treat bacterial infections in various parts of the body, and is particularly indicated for conditions such as diphtheria, acute pelvic inflammatory disease, Legionnaire’s disease, and to prevent recurrent bacterial endocarditis and rheumatic fever in patients allergic to penicillin or sulfa drugs[1]. Xeramel belongs to the class of macrolide antibiotics and works by killing bacteria or inhibiting their growth[1].

Specifically, Xeramel is effective against infections caused by organisms such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila, Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Entamoeba histolytica, and for treating syphilis, nongonococcal urethritis, and Campylobacter gastroenteritis[1]. It also has a role in conjunction with neomycin for bowel decontamination before colorectal surgery[1].

Xeramel may additionally be indicated for conjunctivitis of the newborn, pneumonia of infancy, and urogenital infections during pregnancy caused by Chlamydia trachomatis[1]. When tetracyclines are contraindicated or not tolerated, Xeramel is indicated for uncomplicated urethral, endocervical, or rectal infections in adults due to Chlamydia trachomatis[1].
